What your iPhone unlocks
QCam adapts to the glass it is standing on. Two capabilities decide everything: the square front sensor and Apple Log. Here is the honest map.
Superpower one: the square sensor
The iPhone 17 generation's front sensor is square, so QCam can capture 9:16, 1:1 or 16:9 natively, chosen before you roll or reframed after. This is a hardware trait, not a software trick, which is why it belongs to that generation: iPhone 17, 17 Air, 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max. (The 17e keeps the classic sensor.) On every other iPhone, QCam records clean 9:16.
Superpower two: Apple Log
Pro iPhones from the 15 Pro onward record Apple Log: the flat, wide-latitude negative that grades like cinema footage. In QCam that means shooting Log while previewing a finished look, then changing your mind freely in the editor. Non-Pro phones, including the iPhone 17 and 17 Air, shoot standard color instead.

iPhone 17 Pro / Pro Max: both superpowers, the full studio. iPhone 17 / 17 Air: square sensor, standard color. iPhone 15 Pro / 16 Pro: Apple Log, classic 9:16 sensor. Recent non-Pro iPhones (and the 17e): clean 9:16, standard color, and every teleprompter and editing tool. The prompter, voice tracking, per-clip editing and looks in the editor travel with the app, not the hardware.
