The one-gesture punch-in

The classic punch-in is one split and one pinch in QCam. Zoom belongs to a single clip, so the frame snaps tighter exactly at the cut.

  1. Split where the cut should land

Open your take in the editing room, play to the beat you want to cut on, and pause. Tap Edit, then Split. One clip becomes two at the playhead, and the playhead is already sitting on the new cut.

Pause on a natural boundary, the end of a gesture or a sentence, and the cut will feel invisible.

  2. Pinch the second clip tighter

Play a beat into the second clip and pause, so the playhead is inside it. Now pinch outward on the preview. The frame grows to about 1.2× and a zoom badge lands on that clip in the timeline. Only the clip under the playhead changes; the first clip keeps its wide frame.

After pinching, drag on the preview to choose what the tighter frame centers on.

  3. Play across the cut

Tap the previous-cut button to jump back before the seam, then press play. At the cut, the frame snaps tighter. That is the punch-in: one take, two shot sizes, no second camera.

Subtle sells it. Between 1.1× and 1.4× reads like a deliberate camera change instead of a digital zoom.

Split where the cut should land

One take, two shot sizes. Split on the beat, pinch the second clip, and the cut reads like a camera change. The zoom lives only on that one clip, so one undo brings the wide frame right back.
