Cut out the bad take

The bread-and-butter edit of every talking-head video: fence the flub with two splits, delete the middle, and the timeline closes the gap into a clean jump cut.

  1. Fence the flub

Play until the part you want gone begins and tap Split. Play on to where it ends and tap Split again. The take is now three clips, with a striped marker at each seam, and the bad part sits alone in the middle.

Put both cuts on natural pauses and the finished jump cut will read as rhythm, not as a mistake.

  2. Stand on it, delete it

Jump back and play a beat into the middle piece, so the playhead is standing on the clip you want gone. Tap Delete. The piece vanishes and the timeline closes the gap by itself: no black hole, no dragging clips back together.

The playhead picks the target. Whatever clip it is standing in is the one Delete removes.

  3. Play the joint

Jump to the start and play across the seam: a tight jump cut, straight to the good part. If you regret it, Undo brings the piece back, and Revert to Original returns the whole take any time. The original recording never loses a frame.

Fence the flub

Two splits and a delete: that is most of editing, honestly. Fence it, stand on it, cut it loose, and the timeline does the housekeeping for you.
